Local Collections
Our first four store collections for 2010 have netted a wonderful £722 from North Walsham and Cromer. In August we will be in Stalham and Wroxham, hoping to swell our funds through the generosity of the local population. These collections are our 'lifeline', for without them we would be unable to exist financially.
The 'guys and gals' you see collecting are the very ones who help man the station for 10 hours each and every day of the year, some of them having been watchkeepers since the station opened in 1995!
Thank you for doing your bit towards helping us to keep our part of the North Norfolk coast a safe place for the thousands of people who spend their leisure and work time here.

Farewell to Mike
It is with sadness that we have to report the death of Coastwatch Mundesley Watchkeeper Mike Barnwell, aged 73. Mike joined Coastwatch shortly after the Station opened in 1995 and was one of our longest, continuous serving members. He settled for the last watch on Fridays - his partner, Maureen, was also a Watchkeeper with us until she took charge of one of Mike's stationery shops.
Mike spent most of his life in his family's printing business but his main interest was diving and he owned a RIB dive-boat named "Warrior". He was often seen launching his boat with a crew of divers from Mundesley beach, and for many years was interested in a particular wreck out on Haisboro Sands.
A large three masted 'tall' ship on passage from Hamburg, Germany in 1911 to Santos, Brazil, in thick fog, two days out of Hamburg went aground on the Haisboro.
Built in Glasgow in 1896 as a fully rigged 'ship' and named the 'Conway', she was sold to a German company in 1906 renamed 'Walkure' and re-rigged as a Barque.
This wreck was so important in Mike's life that he named his home in Overstrand 'Conway House'.
On many occasions he would bring items up from the wreck and kindly presented them to the Sidestrand History Archive. At one time, during his years with Coastwatch Mundesley, he and his diving chums, even tried to buy the wreck!
We at Coastwatch Mundesley send our sincere condolences to Mike's partner and family.
The funeral will be on Thursday 26th August at 3pm at St. Michael's Church, Aylsham.
Donation Gratefully Received
Our thanks go to the Muleslai Masonic Lodge of Mundesley for their recent donation of £100. Pictured below is Ray Baggaley from the Lodge presenting the cheque to Station Chairman Richard May.
Upcoming Events
Mundesley's Coronation Hall is celebrating its centenary (that's older than our Station Manager!) this year and NCI Coastwatch Mundesley will have an Information Stand at the hall on the 19th and 20th August as part of their celebration.
We will also be at Trimingham Fete on Sunday 29th August.
If you are planning to come to either of these events, be sure to visit us for a chat.
Rescue Exercises
During May and June, the Station took part in full Practice Exercises with Mundesley Inshore Lifeboat and HM Coastguard. The purpose of these exercises is to gain experience of working directly with other Search and Rescue agencies. More exercises are planned during the coming months.
New NCI Stations
Two new NCI Stations, Calshot Tower at the entrance to Southampton Water and Porthdinlaen in North Wales have recently started operations. There is a very good BBC clip about NCI Calshot - click the link to view
